Goodnight Mister Tom is a children's classic that tells the story of a boy called Willie Beech who is neglected and abused by his mother, but finds a better life when he is evacuated out of London to live with a notoriously grumpy old man, Mister Tom. It is a story of hope and love and friendship, that sees the characters healing each other from their losses. Using typography drawn from British Second World War posters, ration books and newspapers to create my title, and an illustration from a key moment of healing in the book, this cover aims to capture the attention and hearts of the next generation of readers.
