Grandi Mathöll (Food Hall)

A project done at Íslenska for Grandi Mathöll in 2018. Grandi Mathöll is a new foodhall in Reykjavík, located at the harbour area Grandi, set to open in June 2018. The inspiration for the visual identity came from the location itself. At the fully functional port, various things are stacked on top of each other; wooden palettes, containers and plastic tubs. That is the main structure of the identity. The logo is ever-changing, depending on how it’s stacked together, therefore it’s is alive and creative. In the logo you can find 3 international sailing flags, meaning 1-0-1, which is the zip code of the location, 101 Reykjavík. In one of the sailing flags, crosses are exchanged for four-leaf clovers which is the connection to the land and the organic. The waves represent the presence of the ocean, but at the same time the movement which happens in a place like Grandi Mathöll. Last but not least the logo visualizes the atmosphere of a foodhall, a combination of different restaurants, each with their own charm.
