Shortlisted commission by The Institute for Nursing and Midwifery Care and Excellence. Set out by The Institute for Nursing and Midwifery Care and Excellence, this brief was to create a children’s book which aims to improve and change the public’s perception of nurses in the UK today, across generations. In order to achieve this, I chose to use a playful and bright anthropomorphic approach to illustration. This helps to enforce nursing as a gender neutral profession through the elimination of obvious gendered visuals in an engaging way for 3 to 5 year olds, to help alter perceptions from a young age. Risograph is the chosen medium for the illustrations; its vibrancy engages young children and brings the characters to life through its unrefined texture. Unfortunately due to the current conditions printing is still pending, but access to printing facilities is hopefully becoming available in the near future!
