Greenham Common

  • Monica Almada Gouveia
The series ‘Greenham common’ is based on the public parkland itself. The common is known for its use with RAF and US Army Air Force during II World War as well as the Cold War. In addition the airfield became highly known for its Women’s Peace protest outside its gates to stop nuclear missiles from being stored at this base. The series represent the British history present in this location, but is no longer as visible to the eye. By choosing to create infrared images and deciding on a certain distance from specific sites, allowed me to relate back to military conditions and structure in which the military would have operated, forming connections with the past and present.
