HertSquad - University of Hertfordshire

HertSquad is the new branded house for all of the University of Hertfordshire’s sporting activities, both competitive and casual/social which are Active Staff, Active Students, Athletic Union, Campus Sport and Performance Sport – these are HertSquad’s sub-brands.

Varsity is an annual event where HertSquad (the University of Hertfordshire) go up against the University of Derby in over 25 sports. This had previously been presented as a "battle of the Titans" style event, whereas this year we took a new approach, giving it a more festival and friendly aesthetic and feel as a way to attract a new audience.
We applied this new style to all the marketing material including the posters, leaflets, social media posts and other miscellaneous designs such as the scoreboard, t-shirts and 'bang-bang' sticks, whilst also redesigning the Varsity logos for both universities. To connect with the student audiences, we predominantly used social media to promote the event using Instagram stories.
Sports Awards is another annual event that takes place the day after Varsity. We produced a brand new logo and visual identity for this. The look we went for featured vector shapes to set it apart from the heavily photographic event the day before. This visual style was adapted in many ways, through the ticket design, presentation slides, posters, programmes and other miscellaneous material including badges and certificates to be presented to the winning student-athletes.
