'Hidden Figures' - RSA Student Competition

  • Tyra Cadogan

Design a way to break down the physical, organisational or attitudinal barriers that people with hidden disabilities or impairments can face in society, to enable them to live their lives to the full. Deciding to focus on the mental disability of autism, I wanted to focus more in terms of social barriers, such as to do with a lot of the misplaced assumptions and speculations around this condition. I wanted to try and disregard these assumptions, by creating something to help autistic children deal with everyday situations, that they unfortunately find more difficult due to their autism. Early intervention is the key for autistic children to get to grips with their condition, and this game with its VR technology situated within, is just another fact to help make the child understand, and therefore give them important lessons for later on in life.
