Offering a unique opportunity to take a seat, fasten your seatbelts
and explore reclaim lands, or just get lost!
In exploring what it means to be ‘lost’, as one often exists within the virtual and physical domain, my practice investigates the experience and impact of lostness as it presents itself within this dualistic environment.

I have diligently welcomed the chance to ‘get lost’ and reclaim lands.

This journey is now shared with the audience in the form of the two short films showing inside the cabin. These offer an engaging, poignant and at times humorous in-flight film into the pursuit of lostness within the 21st Century dualistic landscape.

The understanding and experience of the landscape and digital photography is shifting through developments in tactile technology, mobile handheld devices and GPS mapping software. This raises the question – not what is photography, but where is photography, and therefore where is the individual who experiences increasingly addictive multiple images?

Today, as the physical and metaphysical location of the individual shifts into an intriguing position, one can now travel across the world without going anywhere. The ability to truly become lost has been called into question at the same time as Cartesian linear notions of time and space begin to shift. This is also apparent in the visual experience of photography through increasing engagement with tactile technology, offering an alternative understanding. Our virtual love affair with the image, the animal and technology is now personified by a kitten playing on an iPad, receiving 2,559,146 views (YouTube, April 2015).

Through research based practice I’ve explore the changing relationships, connections and points of disjuncture that arise from investigating the many facets of lostness. My mixed media approach gives a rich visual result, offering a new ‘space’ for the audience to occupy and reconsider their understanding of locality, landscape, and sense of place.
