History Right Here

History Right Here is my graduation project for the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. It was inspired by the Polish brand MISBHV, a brand that embraces its roots, instead of blindly following the Western European ideals. I noticed that there are quite a few assumptions and negative prejudices when talking about the former Eastern Bloc and I thought it was beautiful that this brand wanted to break these perceptions.
My interest was triggered and I wanted to know more about this, to me, mysterious part of Europe. My goal was to create a film that would emphasize the beauty of growing up in an Eastern Bloc country, in the 90s, right after the fall of the Iron Curtain. I focused on this timeframe because of the changes that took place. The former elusive Western Europe suddenly became a bit more obtainable after the fall, but still remained somewhat unreachable for most people.
I wanted to know what the people, who grew up in Poland in the 90s, could still remember of this remarkable happening. What was it like for them, growing up during this time, their favorite things and their sweetest moments? This resulted in a short film based on actual stories where I take you back in time to their dearest childhood memories and break the stereotypes.
The film was shortlisted at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival 2018 and nominated for the 'best student film' award.
