'Holy Pigeon'

  • Emilia Evans Munton

After my Meat project, I wanted to explore themes of mortality and religion by exploring the portrayal of overlooked roadkill in the same manner as historical figures were glorified in Old Masters' art. I researched symbolism in Renaissance art and did some personal exploration to find deserted roadkill on the streets of London. From this, I knitted a larger than life pigeon sculpture as seen in the photos below. To make a final outcome from this, I directed a photo shoot of my friends cradling the pigeon and chose my favourite photos to paint in the style of Old Masters' work.
