Hosted in collaboration with Bombay Sapphire, BAFTA and The Hollywood Reporter, House Shorts is an international competition open to entrants in the UK, USA and Germany.
The conditions of the competition are simple. Submissions must be set (and subsequently filmed) in one of the ten Soho House clubs, and based around a specific theme which for the 2012 competition was ‘Imagination’.
James Kibbey was crowned the House Shorts 2012 winner at a screening and announcement at Soho House New York on November 13th, attended by the nine finalists and Jessica Chastain. The finalists faced an illustrious panel including Harvey Weinstein, Paul Haggis, Jessica Chastain and current House Shorts winner Sean Gray following their submission of a two-minute film each set and shot in one of the international Soho Houses. The final filmmakers were chosen out of the many entries and awarded funding to produce the short films.
Paul Haggis said of the competition, “It was very hard to choose a winner; the top three were all extraordinary. I was quite jealous and would have been very proud to have made any of them. They were all inspired, well-written, beautifully shot, edited and well-acted. In fact some of the performances were quite remarkable. These are all world-class filmmakers in the making”.
