I Am A Child Of Africa (UK Afrobeats and Afroswing Uni Documentary)

  • Caleb Badi Badi

Being African and having a passion of anything music originating from Africa, from Afrobeats to Rumba to Highlife to Amapiano and everything in between. It has been a huge element in my life, and despite the fact that I haven't gone back home, I always consider it a big part of my identity. I know many other second and third generation immigrants share my sentiments. I decided to create a documentary to honour the gift of dual identities among London's African Diaspora of the second generation. A documentary that celebrates the joy and pride of being African in a world far away. The short film documentary focuses on school friend, Khendie, a Nigerian born and raised who migrated to Hackney, London at the age of 8. We get to hear about his story, influences, and musical journey. From a cultural and personal standpoint, he compares and highlights several aspects of music in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He also provides a quick breakdown of his UK Afrobeats single 'Drop it' and a overview of the UK's emerging afrobeats scene and how he believes it will evolve over the next few years. If you appreciate everything African and Black British Culture, I hope you enjoy this.
