IBRAHIM'S KHAN, PAPHOS

  • DIMITRA PAPOURI

About the film: Some might not remember how Ibrahim’s Khan was a few years ago, but with its restoration, life was given to this place and the people who work here show the artistic and artisanal face of Paphos. This short film shows the daily life of the artists, workers and craftsmen at Ibrahim’s Khan in order to promote the space and illustrate the possibilities of the Cypriots. . Filmmaker’s Notes: As an artist I’ve always loved meeting new people and talking to them about their dreams and aspirations and this project was for me an opportunity to meet the artists and craftsmen of today’s Ibrahim’s Khan and see how they work and what they want to offer to Paphos, my hometown. Getting to know people like Mr. Giorgos, a chairmaker who works for the past 54 years in the same shop, while at the same time talking with young people at the beginning of their career, made me appreciate even more this effort for the development of the Khnan. Seeing how an old abandoned space was transformed into a more traditional, but yet somehow a modern space, fascinated me to film the everyday routine of the people who are now working and creating at this place, in order to show to the people and promote their effort to make this place better.
