Identity for a film production studio

  • Ilya Siomin

No Strings is a studio focusing on animated films, motion graphics, and film production. Back in the days, a cel frame from Pinocchio was given to the founder and has become a staple of the office and a bit of a touchstone for the studio idea. So the name came out as a riff on the story of Pinocchio, and specifically, a character brimming with so much life on screen it no longer feels controlled by the animator.

This cel frame along with some early sketches made by the client (both shown above) inspired the idea for a bespoke typeface, illustrating the name of the studio and referencing the joints of the puppet. The corresponding symbol came out naturally and is a nod to Pinocchio. Together they are used across the identity and supporting materials dedicated to the upcoming short film by the studio.
