Idol

‘Idol’ is the second part of a collaborative project between members of LGBTQ+ community and I and it aims to explore the way that being a part of the growing “fan culture” movement is able to reveal a faction of an individual's personality and it can help shaping an unique identity. The project focuses on a small group of people who are active members in the LGBTQ+ community in Birmingham, including myself, and it facilitates how we are represented through the people we follow to the society. The project explores the idea of having an idol, a person that influences us and it takes this concept to a literal level. The methodology approached in this project was a process that involved using networking to invite people to participate. A session would start with a creative and technical workshop where guidance about how to use a camera and a remote shutter release will be offered before shooting. Following this we would work together in order to find a good composition for the photographs. After this step I will invite my participants to take about 25 to 30 self-portraits with my assistance. The last step would be drawing a conclusion by interviewing the collaborator which will be an essential part of the project as it will accompany the photographs in the body of work. The audience will consist of outsiders and insiders of the LGBTQ+ community and the final result will be a public offline and online document that can be easily accessed. The desired outcome is to empower and give voice to members of this community from Birmingham. The result of the project will be a zine that would encapsulate the body of work.
