Il Girasole

My FMP from university is about the art my grandmother made of Umbria, Italy, an important piece of our heritage. This project is majorly inspired by my grandmother and our Italian heritage. She started learning about it at the age of 40 and didn’t stop until she passed away at the age of 80 in 2023. Even in the later years of her life, my grandmother would tell our family things about our ancestors that she had only just learned that week or that day. In this collection you can see outfits with the wide and loose silhouettes that are inspired by growing up in a prime resurgence of skate culture in Chicago. The prints and shapes of the patterns and garments come from my grandmother's paintings. This blend of things seems random but they are both things that I spend a majority of my life experiencing and seeing and my grandmother experienced the rise in skate culture. Similarly how she shared cultural knowledge with me, I shared knowledge about skate culture and fashion with her.

This is a video I made for the Arts University Bournemouth Instagram takeover day for Graduate Fashion Week. Filmed by Mia Patterson, it was composed, written, and directed by me.
I knew I wanted to make a short film for my collection and the Friday I was chosen to submit one, I was informed that the deadline was the next Wednesday. I put together the script and story board over the weekend and filmed everything in my student house on that Monday. For being a quick turn around time, it came out great.
This video was shown in the KLOSS room at Graduate Fashion Week.
This video was shown at the Arts University Bournemouth booth at Graduate Fashion Week. After the takeover video, I wanted something to show off the full physical aspect of the collection in a kind of collection trailer. This video has no voice over and is supplemented by music composed by me.
This video shows the clothes together and how they interact. The setting for this video is a heath behind the university that resembles the Umbrian countryside, the inspiration for the color pallette of this collection.
This was shot by Grace Kenneally and directed by me and was shown at the Arts University Bournemouth booth at Graduate Fashion Week.
