WORK IN PROGRESS! Brief. You have been asked to select from one of three 19th century novels that explore a range of themes from, The dangers of scientific progressivism, the duality of man and the preservation of the environment to name a few. Choosing from one of the following books; The Island of Dr Moreau - H.G. Wells, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - Jules Verne. You will be creating 3D illustration for the launch of a new movie that is being released in the Autumn. The live action film unlike other films will be true to the books themes, characters and motives. Your goal is to hook the audience in with a piece of illustration that exists in three dimensional space. This could take the form of a pop-up book, point of sale, film merchandise or even food packaging, it is completely up to you. Throughout this project you will be experimenting with 3D illustration and spatial awareness, but your starting points must be the book you have picked. You will need to know the characters and themes before you can be inspired to produce illustrations. You will not only explore the creative side of illustration but will need to become familiar with the practical problems of construction as well.
