Last year Pantone took an unexpectedly political stance with its Color of the Year, choosing not one, but two hues to embody 2016. Rose Quartz and Serenity, a light pink and baby blue, made a statement about the evolution of gender in society and politics. Some might have expected Pantone to follow a similar track this year, choosing a tone that reflects the uncertain political atmosphere around the world, like Benjamin Moore did with their dark and moody Shadow. Instead, Pantone did a 180, choosing to lift us out of the stress of it all with the refreshing and lighthearted Greenery.
This happy green hue is representative of spring and renewal. It’s intrinsically linked to nature, from a lush jungle canopy to a spiky succulent garden, but it’s also indicative of technology, from glowing green lights on devices to the body of a microchip.
