Immersive Books

  • Hristiyan Pavlov
The Brief:

Explore the potential for print design to be used more effectively. Choose a piece of copy to experiment with, push the boundaries of the medium. Consider the use of format, construction, narrative and user experience. How can you immerse the reader and make books more engaging beyond the obvious interpretations.

The Solution:

Throughout my research I discovered that most attempts to reinvigorate the print medium focused on merely replication the features of the digital format. This encouraged me to explore the qualities that are inherent to the physical copy and find ways of reinforcing them. As a result I designed the Immersive Series which uses smart materials to provide an amplified reading experience. In conditions that we would call normal parts of the content remain hidden to the naked eye. Users are invited to interact with the books by placing them in an environment that reflects their story (cold, warm or wet). Upon contact with the elements a reaction is triggered across the pages and the full content is revealed.
