INSIDE OUTSIDE

  • Charlotte Vennstrom
These photographs are about exploring the feeling of being trapped in a situation seemingly without escape, to distance oneself from darkness to then embrace it in time for the return of light – a descent into a crippling and almost suicidal depression, conveying the full terror of depression’s psychic landscape, as well as the illuminating path to recovery. The narrative is pulled forward by how the body relates to light and shadow. Two parallel stories are taking place – while the body adapts to darkness the mind too enters a dark place and an immersive state of madness. By adapting to the new lifestyle she changes, embraces the dark and becomes a nocturnal creature of the night.
