International Day of Light Celebrations 2022

Guiding Lights was the 2022 celebration of the UNESCO International Day of Light (IDL) organized on behalf of the London Institute of Advanced Light Technologies (LIALT). Preparation began in late 2021 and culminated on the IDL May 16th 2022 with a day-long event at the Science Gallery London. There were three classes of activity: PhD students from LIALT institutions were trained to work with glass, and produce representations of their research to exhibit to the public; a day-long programme of talks and panel discussions on the theme of light from industry, academia and the cultural sector; hosting “MiniMelt”, portable furnaces so the public could try glass-making, with their pieces presented as part of the exhibition.
