Italia: The Airship Crash Chronicle

In the spring of 1928, a team of explorers led by Umberto Nobile ventured out to the North Pole on board the airship Italia. The objective was achieved, but on the way back the heroic Arctic quest turned into disaster. Several countries participated in the rescue mission: the USSR, Italy, France, Norway and Sweden. It tells a story of unbelievable for that times international cooperation. And the process of creating this longread was no less international -- while collecting the information, we’ve received help from all over the world. This allowed us to make the most truthful visualization. The project "Italia: The Airship Crash Chronicle" features a truly dramatic text stuffed with all kinds of multimedia elements: interactive infographics, maps, and a 3D-model of the airship.
