Jesters Court - Branding/Environmental Design

  • Will Roach

My final major project completed in my third year at university this project is based around transforming a disused car park into a creative hub for artists, designers, performers and more. The name is based on the location of a car park in Bristol found surrounded by royal names and titles such as Kings Street, Queens Road, Princes Street and The Old Duke. I wanted to communicate a space that allowed creative people to collaborate and flourish.

Social Media Advert

This short animation was created to promote the hub on Instagram and other social media platforms it showcases activities and opportunities offered by the hub.

Beer Mats

These beer mats would be found in the bar areas of the hub each contains information about different activities available to visitors. One thing I wanted to focus on was making the hub feel like a part of Bristol. I used Bristolian words and phrases to describe the activities linking it to the city and making the brand more playful.
The beer mats can be placed next to each other to form a larger grid like a collectable puzzle.

Wayfinding

Each floor would contain paths leading people to different locations and signs in stairwells would show what was located on each floor.

Website

The website utilises the grid system again to represent how everything in the hub is connected. The home page allows users to navigate around and see various different activities. Bristolian dialect is again used to link the brand to Bristol and make it feel playful and fun.

The equipment booking page was designed to communicate the availability of equipment visually within the brand system. The events page quickly communicates what an event involves using the photography and the type then gives more details about each event.

Instagram

I created a template for Instagram posts to bring visual harmony to the hub's social media page. This allows for the grid element to be applied to the main account page and incorporates typographic elements onto the post itself highlighting the subjects of the post and the creators involved.
