Jon Richardson Grows Up

Full post production on 3 x 60 min documentary series for Channel 4.

This three-part series sees comedian Jon Richardson and his friend Matt Forde face up to the adult realities of mortgages, marriage and parenthood.

Shot on a variety of cameras, from Go pro to C300, Colin Peters graded there series with the Nucoda Film Master. Peters' first job was to bring a uniformity to the imagery through the series, and create something that felt richer and more cinematic than most other TV documentaries.

Keeping this 'big screen' reference in my mind throughout, Peters brought Nucodas' multi-layer capabilities in to play to add areas of bold colour and contrast to each image; he was able to bring the texture and colour range to the series' wide landscapes and intimate close-ups, that is usually to be found in theatrical documentaries.

Peters added graduated skies and subtle vignettes to draw the audience into the programme and created a 'club lounge' style for the stand up scenes with saturation and shaping in order to capture the intimacy of the comedy venue.

Steve Andrews completed the online with Avid Symphony and Gary Kelly mixed the audio with Pro Tools 11.
