As a child, I spent endless hours shut up in my room, thinking about the world as through the lens of someone who didn’t belong. I wondered why I felt so alienated, the itch of fear in my stomach. It was only when I became an adult, moved cities, had my own children, did I realised why I had felt so isolated. Things are different for people like me because so many people are born with the knowledge of who they are, they can’t imagine what it’s like to live inside a body that does not belong to them.
