Just one thing - Coal

A brief created to explore one object in its entirety and create something visual. I picked a piece of coal and collated a 16 page 2m long print with the information I gathered from the national coal mining museum as well as using imagery from microscopic images of coal. I used lino print and digital to create this piece. The piece was inspired by Craig Oldham and his book on the miners strikes displayed within the coal mining museum. The final outcome will be bound with the thickest stock I can find, Debossed with the title and including a wax seal that holds the coin given to me from entering the mine. The text on the print contains the information given and explained to me while touring one of the old pits with an ex-miner. I wanted to display this information in a more visual format.
