Drawing on memories and current affairs, this painting touches on youth culture and nostalgia. As a kid growing up, my memories are filled with playing outside, especially football to kill boredom, being in a household with no tv. The fine lines in my area of falling into the wrong crowd can be simple boredom, the lack of anything to do in an underdeveloped area can often lead to falling in with the wrong people. Thinking of too much time as a dangerous thing, looking back I see my childhood activities as 'Killing Time' in a literal sense as they acted as an escape. A trigger to this idea was the change in youth culture down to the ages of even 12 where crime is something everyone is involved in. Specifically the experience of taking my cousins to the park only to have a kid probably 14 years old stabbed provided a stark contrast in my memory of being of that age and provided perspective to my own youth activities being something that was 'Killing Time' in a lteral sense, treating time as a perpetrator.
