Kinetic 1

  • Ben Pusey

kinetic sculpture, wall art, forged, 3rd year piece

Kinetic 1 is a sculpture that i made for my midway assessment in my 3rd year at Hereford college of arts.
The sculpture's motion (which is the cornerstone for kinetic sculptures) is informed by my stylised interpretation of double pendulums. I chose Double pendulums to inform the motion as they by nature demonstrate a wide verity of motion, shapes, and forms meaning there is always something different to observe.

The visual language is informed by my understanding of certain connections, material qualities, and the radius of the individual pendulums.
In my work I like to have a fusion of modern, contemporary interpretations, concepts and tools, still with heavy influence from traditional forging techniques, processes and practices.

The concept behind this sculpture is to draw people away from our"Hyperculture" (*1) and allow them to lose themselves in its motion bringing a quiet, relaxing few minuets to there day. This is somthing that I relate to as I look for ways to eliviate the pressure from our hyperculture, and the making and use of kinetic sculptures such as this one is one of the ways that i have frond to achive this.
