A self-made short film aimed to recreate the 1970s Protect and Survive public information film but with a modern-day twist. Whilst Protect and Survive warned people of nuclear war, this was to warn people about the dangers of emerging and autocratic technology, a skepticism pertinent both then and now. The set needed to juxtapose the pessimism of the film's subject matter, leading me to explore 1970s utopian architecture. I came across Archigram, an architecture group that drew most of its inspiration from technology, utilitarian ideas, and flexible systems. I adopted this avant-garde approach in my practice resulting in a neo-futuristic aesthetic. The film is set in Thamesmead, reimagined as a megastructure. The purpose of which, inhabitants work to survive and survive to work. Tower blocks are placed on water moving up and down to generate tidal power, a take on sustainable energy, a popular topic in the early 70s. The interior is a visual representation of this, consisting of inflatable pods that hold essential items for survival and protect the user from harm if they should suffer from vertigo or motion sickness. Throughout this project I used the following software; Marvelous Designer, Aximmetry, UE4/5, iClone, CC4, Blender, Houdini, Touch Designer, Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
