Publication ⁄ 235 × 320 mm ⁄ 112 pages Typographic compositions and interpretation of “Nature of Things,” a collection of 32 short prose poems by French poet and essayist Francis Ponge. Ponge creates a cosmology from words. He snatches from the language its common purpose as a mere vehicle for prefabricated content and straightforward messages. His linguistic revolution breaks the linguistic structure into a freely proliferating network of meanings, which bypasses the object, provides it with a multitude of approaches, to finally transform it. This work tries to understand Francis Ponge’s approach to things. The typographical transcription seeks to emphasise the writer’s linguistic means and provide a new dimension to words. The author’s intention to bring things to life with a pointed choice of words is visualised; sounds, alliterations, and brave word combinations become visible.
