Ladyburn Edition Two / Norman Parkinson 1966

The second edition from ‘ghost’ distillery Ladyburn (only operational for nine years from 1966 to 1975). A limited release of 210 bottles from a 1966 single cask, bringing together an extraordinary whisky with legendary fashion photographer Norman Parkinson (1913-1990). Parkinson pioneered storytelling in his images, shooting dynamic portrait and fashion photography on location in a style coined as ‘action realism’. This contrasted with the formal studio photographs that had marked the forties and fifties. A keen traveller who took most of his photographs outside of the studio, his witty and inventive style made him ideally suited to capture some of the most defining fashion and cultural trends of the sixties. His portrayal of independent women embraced the cultural shift of this new decade. Passionate till the very end, Norman Parkinson died whilst shooting on location in Malaysia in 1990. British journalist and acclaimed international fashion critic Suzy Menkes (OBE), selected eleven photographs from Parkinson’s archive that best reflect some of the key trends identified in her article ‘A Decade of Transformation’. All were shot between 1960 and 1969, often in exotic locations, in an unexpected or unconventional set up and were originally commissioned by iconic fashion and lifestyle magazines: Vogue, Queen and Life Magazine. The complete set of bottles, carrying all ten images, includes an eleventh bottle, ‘the black swan’, that features a black & white image and can only be acquired when a full collection is purchased.
