Erasmus Euro Media Awarded documentary series on Hungarian youth migration (director/producer)
In 2012, with two of my pals, we flew to New York City to make our first documentary short. This was the best answer we could come up with regarding the burning question of what we should invest in our profit we made that year with a company we just started building besides our daily jobs.
We shot a double portrait of two Hungarian young adults who left Hungary in order to pursue opportunities their home country did not have to offer. It was the time when the effects of a mass migration of active working age people started having an impact on all families and friend circles in Hungary.
Youth migration, mainly to Western EU countries, has ever since been one of the most immanent social phenomenons in Central Eastern European countries affecting societies and economies both home and abroad.
The LEAVE/STAY documentaries, later bought by several TV channels and streamed online for free, became one of the most popular documentary series in Hungary.
The most recent episode, titled LEAVE/STAY: Sweet Home, came out at Budapest Verzio International Human Rights Film Festival in November, 2017, was playing on television and went online in June, 2018. As the fourth stand-alone episode of the series, it deals with families who try to settle back to Hungary after having spent years abroad.
