LGBT+ Protest Photography and Poster Design (2019)

  • Luke Ellis

In April 2019, the Queer community took to the streets of London to protest the country of Brunei's condemnation of same sex relationships and marriage. The Sultan of Brunei tried to implement a law that would have resulted in the punishment of queer people with death by stoning. Such barbarism prompted public outcries worldwide, and a protest was held outside the Dorchester Hotel, owned by the Sultan, in order to send a direct message. This work was used during an activism and cultural dissent project at university using photography as well as poster design to document the community coming together in the face of hatred. As a result of the Queer and wider communities work, the Sultan of Brunei has not enacted his anti-LGBT laws! Love will always win! <3
