Life in a Bag

  • Rosie Akroyd

With no time to decide what to take, many refugees have to flee their homes with only the contents of a backpack. ‘Life in a Bag’ is a campaign to make Londoners think about what they might have to leave behind in order to take what is necessary for survival. An interactive game with a peg board rucksack only allows a few items to be slotted into the bag at a time. Londoner’s were challenged under the clock to choose their essential items, as if they had to flee the country. Once finished, we presented them with a petition slip to sign, backed with real life stories from refugees, depicting what objects they took and why. During one day in central London, 182 petitions were signed to put more pressure on the government to welcome more refugees into the country. Brief set by Amnesty International
