Liznojan

  • Joanne Coates
Liznojan is the work that allows for a new experience with nature to come forth. Spending nights in the wild, finding a way through mists in bogs and trenches, Something very different occurs. It is not I who enter the place but it is the place that enters me. To rediscover the landscape for what it is, one must go back, search forgotten histories, through each footstep the land allows a thousand voices to speak. People belong to the landscape. Their histories are embedded within the land. A union between a mythical fiction and the English everyday, in order to create a sense of ambiguity and unease.
Liznojan is a work where I invite the viewer to look at the landscape in a new way. To reflect upon histories both forgotten and unspoken, In some senses a contemporary Gothic fiction. A passage through new and old. The landscape allows for a navigation of contemporary issue, A reflection on history, A re visitation for forgotten souls . Redemption of both mind and spirit. Allowing this course be( tween the world we know, and the world of the unconscious

This was of working produces a visual poetry that allows me to speak in ways that are otherwise unavailable. Photography as a carrier for Myth is a useful tool. The medium lends itself to ideological myths and hegemonic power
