Local Data: Conversations

  • Lewis Coull

This project consisted of gathering a form of localised data and displaying it in some unique form on a postcard. This brief was also to be carried out using a risograph printer. I chose to focus my postcards on the data of conversation and chose to record the majority of conversations I had within a week. The recorded the relationship with said person, the type of conversation and its content as well as duration to name a few. I found this topic to be interesting as it made me realise how often and how little I spoke to certain people I interact with on a daily basis. In terms of design, I knew I wanted to create some sort of code/pattern as my imagery on the postcard. I found the idea of figuring out each intricate detail of the postcard to be interesting and made for an interesting story and interactive piece of art. As well as this the data also acted as an attractive pattern that could act as a part of art separate from being a coded piece of data.
