London Alphabet

  • Charles Tomlinson
This London inspired alphabet was meant to be used for a series of campaigns related to the UK capital, which was then one of the destinations at the base of all the music related promotions for the tobacco brand Winston.
The letters were based on Winston’s own proprietary font, itself an Alternate Gothic inspired font, and had to evoke London (and more specifically East London and its music scene) while avoiding any obvious cliché references and while using a limited palette of three colours. Eleven of my original letters ended up being used in the final London alphabet, but I designed many more in total, among which the fifteen visuals I am showing here.
