Lord Provosts Burns Supper 2018

  • Lucy Rose Turner

I have always been keen to gain volunteering experience during my time at University. Another opportunity which was passed on through a lecturer was volunteering roles at the Lord Provost's Burns Supper event in 2018. This was a prestigious event held at the DoubleTree Hilton in Glasgow, for the Lord Provost at the time - Eva Bolander. This was Glasgow's new Lord Provost's first charity Burns Supper, and the event raised £40,000 for good causes. The Lord Provost's Charity Funds for Children and Vulnerable Citizens, the Lord Provost's Malawi Fund, and Glasgow and Clyde Rape Crisis were the causes which benefitted from the event that year. My role at the event included setting up the VIP reception, assisting with table seating plans, checking guests in and leading them to their tables. During the event I assisted with the auctions, the running order, and liaising any potential delays or problems with hotel staff.
