An Ultra High Definition IPTV music platform, Low Four streams and archives live performances from established touring acts and emerging local talent. It was founded in 2016 as part of my initiative St John’s Projects for Culture with a small investment from Allied London and additional funding and in-kind support from the University of Salford and other partners.
Low Four trains future generations of music and video producers through a partnership with the University, led by Dr Brendan WIlliams and Daniel Parrott. An audience viewing balcony makes the studio unique and means that recordings - along with other special events, concerts, lectures and parties - are open to members of the public through ticket giveaways and competitions.
The studio also nurtures Manchester’s most promising artists directly by making monthly commitments to city’s most exciting, burgeoning new artists, offering free recording time and development advice.
Working for the client Allied London on a placemaking initiative to bring new life to the former Granada Studios site, I established a partnership with Salford University and devised the Low Four project to meet a number of strategic objectives; driving footfall, social engagement and creative partnerships, and producing high quality shareable content on multiple platforms. In 2017, after just one year of operation, the studio was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award.
