Luthier

Published with Suitcase Magazine I shot Anette Fajardo recently in her south east London workshop as she worked on restoring an 18th century Violin for the dutch Jumpstart music foundation. She enthusiastically gave me a run through of her processes and her history as a luthier, whilst i photographed her small corner of London where she restores instruments centuries old and of immense culture/monetary value. Working on the violins comes with its different approaches and philosophies - Should you do work which will last the strain of playing or solely make fixes for the Violin, which keeps it as close to the original form? In the images below you can see Anette removing original wood from mid 1700 violin which is a apparently a last resort and rarity.
