LVL UP - Hoodwink'd (2014)

  • Nick Corbo

LVL UP was a popular indie rock band in NYC from 2010 - 2018, utilizing a collaborative, Beatles-esque writing approach featuring 3 composers, Dave Benton, Mike Caridi, and myself writing and singing individual songs in a group setting. We performed professionally for nearly 10 years, toured extensively in the US, UK, and Europe, released 3 studio albums and a collection of singles, EP's and 7" records. We were often featured in main stream media outlets such as NPR, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork, and performed in major festivals like SXSW and Primavera Sound in Barcelona. "Hoodwink'd" is our sophomore album on then-budding NYC label Double Double Whammy, owned and operated by LVL UP guitarists Mike Caridi and Dave Benton. An embodiment of our experiences as professional musicians in our early 20's in New York City, "Hoodwink'd" is a time capsule full of fuzzed-out indie rock anthems and downtrodden lo-fi haunts tapping into some of the classic traditions laid out by formative bands like Built to Spill and Pavement. The album was released professionally, promoted across main stream media outlets and with extensive trans-continental touring. Like all LVL UP records, we recorded on these songs collaboratively, but my compositions were: 1. Angel from Space 4. Hex 7. DBTS 10. Total Loss 15. Black Honey "Hoodwink'd" is available on all formats via the LVL UP Bandcamp, and is streaming everywhere. The album currently has 4,424,549 streams on Spotify alone.
