LVL UP - Space Brothers (2011)

  • Nick Corbo

LVL UP was a popular indie rock band in NYC from 2010 - 2018, utilizing a collaborative, Beatles-esque writing approach featuring 3 composers, Dave Benton, Mike Caridi, and myself writing and singing individual songs in a group setting. We performed professionally for nearly 10 years, toured extensively in the US, UK, and Europe, released 3 studio albums and a collection of singles, EP's and 7" records. We were often featured in main stream media outlets such as NPR, Rolling Stone, and Pitchfork, and performed in major festivals like SXSW and Primavera Sound in Barcelona. "Space Brothers" is our debut album on then-budding NYC label Double Double Whammy, owned and operated by LVL UP guitarists Mike Caridi and Dave Benton. We recorded and released this album while still in college, our first attempt to combine our collective song writing styles into one collaborative project. It was well received locally and regionally, and led to some of our first experiences touring across the country. Of our 3 albums together, "Space Brothers" reads like a mixtape or playlist, the sweet, homey musical stylings of three friends experimenting with writing and recording, trying to find their musical voice. Most of the songs were written separately and brought together for the sake of the album. We would eventually go on to write and record more collaboratively. Of the 13 songs on the album, I composed tracks: 3. Black Mass 5. Third Eye 8. Nightshade 13. Elixr (19) "Space Brothers" is available repressed on the LVL UP bandcamp, and is streaming everywhere.
