Maison Bent continues to celebrate it’s Caribbean heritage for AW21 by bringing forth Lockdown conversations between Bent and her Grandfather about life during 1960’s Black Britain. Inspired by the working class fashions of Generation Windrush, Bent takes a deeper dive into that era, intwining pop-art with traditional work-wear worn by Caribbean migrants in the UK. A synergy of hard, manual labour, the fight for racial equality and the thriving music scene which eventually birthed the infamous Nottinghill Carnival to celebrate Caribbean culture and racial unity. Traditional wool and silk blend fabrics are locally sourced from British mills and hand-made in the Maison Bent Wimbledon atelier and adorned with recycled metal embellishments. The AW21 film, premiering during London Fashion Week, features soulful singer-songwriter, Leah Weller from London of St Lucian and English heritage, performing her 4th Single ‘Strangers’ produced by Steve Craddock. Leah is currently working on her debut album and tours for 2022. Inspired by the emboldened 60’s Caroline Hajny approaches the film visuals using vivid colour schemes to contrast with the neutral hues of the collection. A distinctive fish-eye lens creates a vintage universe of bold and exaggerated optics.
