MANNA was developed for my Master's Degree (MA) in Photography through Falmouth University. Working with contributors of mixed-heritage and migratory backgrounds and experiences, the project explores food cultural artefact and symbol of personal genealogy & its power to invoke emotions, memories, and all manner of sensations both pleasurable and problematic. These qualities make food an expressive symbol for who we are and what preoccupies us as individuals and society in general. The project was performative and interventionist as forays were made into the landscape with collaborators. These became personal 'rituals' both exploring and creating sensations of belonging for the participants. The work shown here is a small selection from the body of work, some of which was published in Source Magazine's Graduate Showcase in late 2021. The second phase of project development begins in 2022.
