Mannequin Mother - Short Drama

  • Adam Deans

This film was the biggest challenge I've faced at University so far due to the first lockdown beginning on the first day of our shoot. We were able to persuade our tutors to issue us the equipment and allow us to complete post-production remotely, which was a big hurdle at first. This was my first real experience using After Effects, which I used to digitally replace the grave text and create the titles and credits as well as the social media graphics. The time crunch of post really pushed me to figure out how to achieve what we needed, but the results really satisfied me. I edited this film from my parents' house, creating exports of scenes with embedded timecode and my comments and thoughts addressing the written feedback my Director was sending me. She would reply with a time-stamped list of her own thoughts, and this feedback cycle repeated throughout post. This system I devised allowed us to continue mostly unhampered, and we were able to complete and hand in the assignment- getting a high First! I was the DoP on set, working with our Camera Operator to light our scenes. Most of us held several roles, myself doing DoP, Grip, Editing, Colouring, Foley recording, and titles and graphics. Whilst I enjoy specialising I also like to take on a wide variety of roles when needed.
