My third year dissertation attempts to define craft and determine
its future development.
Craft have been defined by some in opposition to forces that might threaten it – forces like modernity and technology. Others define craft by skill and consider technology a craftsman’s tool. Those critics suggest craft evolves with, rather than is threatened by, time. This piece attempts to reconcile these and other definitions of craft, to determine how it will develop in this digital age.
A range of print processes were used for this design, to highlight the importance of precision, tool and control over process within craft.
