Mdeay – the Khmer word for ‘Mother’, follows Thida, a young surrogate mother carrying a foreign couple’s baby as she is caught up in the crackdown on commercial surrogacy in Cambodia. Placed under arrest and faced with the imminent birth of the child, Thida must make a life-changing decision that will have impacts on not only her life, but that of the new-born child.
