  • Lauren Parmar

We caught up with London's newly-promoted Head of Culture and Studio Operations Lauren Parmar, to discuss her career at The Mill, the importance of internal culture and how she's keeping herself busy outside of work, by creating sustainable handmade jewellery. https://www.themill.com/newsfeed/meet-lauren-parmar-head-of-culture-and-studio-operations-for-our-london-studio/?utm_content=191492924&utm_medium=social&utm_source=linkedin&hss_channel=lcp-9328

How long have you worked at The Mill?
It’s hard to believe as the time has flown by so fast, but I’ve been at The Mill for nearly five years now. What really struck me when I first joined was just how passionate, dedicated and proud of their craft everyone was. Being new to the VFX industry, it was a bit of a baptism by fire, but it really pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best possible way. Over the last five years, I’ve learnt so much and have been fortunate to be surrounded by great people and super smart, kind leaders who’ve taught me a lot about how to manage a busy studio and lead with integrity. As someone who has always been passionate about creativity, storytelling and people, it was so exciting to me to join such an inspiring company that is curious by nature and consistently pushes boundaries. It’s been five of the best years of my life.

What excites you most about your new role?
I’m honoured and beyond excited to be taking on this new role. The Mill has an amazing culture that is hard to define, but what I can say is that it’s infectious; driven by our supremely talented teams, the desire to create outstanding work and have a lot of fun whilst doing it! In my new role, I’ll continue working closely with the leadership team to nurture and harness our existing culture, whilst ensuring The Mill remains a forward-thinking and great place to work. Over the past couple of years, the world of work has changed dramatically. As we look to the future, we will continue to embrace more flexible and inclusive ways of working, focus on attracting outstanding talent and a diverse workforce, drive improved sustainability efforts and ensure all staff feel supported and empowered to do the best work. And I’m sure we’ll be throwing a few parties for our staff and clients along the way too (covid permitting of course)!

What is currently inspiring you?
Aside from binge-watching Succession which I am literally obsessed with, I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy outside of work making jewellery for my new brand ‘Frank’, named after my pet Pomeranian Frank… obviously. We’re a small operation of two (just me and Frank) and everything is handmade to order and packaged using recycled materials so there’s no waste. You can find us on Instagram @frankcreates and will likely see some of my Mill colleagues modelling our designs next time you’re in the building!
