Menopause in the Media Campaign

  • Liz Hamilton

Menopause doesn't get much recognition, apart from usually being the punch line of a joke. It has the disadvantage of being at the receiving end of several stigmas, i.e. aging and 'women's issues'. There is still a lot of misunderstandings around menopause and perimenopause, who it affects and when. The number of cis women, transmen, nonbinary and intersex people who have their menopause experience ignored or undermined by professionals and their friends / family is staggering. As a society, the more we push to see this in the media, the more open we are to discussing our experiences. This builds support both with our peers and with professionals. The campaign focuses on the kaleidoscopic nature of menopause. Each person has their own unique and varied experience. Every person deserves recognition, support and compassion.
