Inspired by the 2012 Royal Ballet interpretation of Metamorphosis, the final solution to the brief reflected the protagonist's, Gregor's change into an 'insect-like creature'.
To replicate Gregor's hands, experimenting with mixtures of acrylic paint, PVA glue, mud, Marmite, Nutella and honey, to gain something that was of a similar consistency. I then bound an old book in white paper, and held the book as a reader would.
When the reader holds the book, they put their hands over Gregor's 'fingerprints', making them feel uneasy and apprehensive; why does it look as if their hands are dirty? Not only does this create the same, uneasy, feeling as when we see bugs or 'insect-like creatures', but it also places the reader into Gregor's shoes, helping them understand the story to a greater depth.
