MidCentury is an independent magazine celebrating, you guessed it, mid-century design. We were commissioned by Esterson Associates to design and produce a limited edition A5 print, using the words of the controversial, but legendary Modernist architect Le Corbusier, to be given away as an incentive for becoming a friend of the publication.
Taking inspiration from Le Corbusier's iconic building structures, we created a typographic grid using the back of wood type letters: when printed, in a pale warm grey, this gave a structured, almost concrete effect. His famous quote is overlayed onto to this framework.
Hand type set in 6-line Stephenson Blake & Co Condensed Sans Serif No.14 wood type, with 12pt Grotesque No.9 and 10pt & 12pt Condensed Sans Serif No. 7.
Printed in pale warm grey, dark grey, with a very mid-century flash of red to finish it off, on Fedrigoni Materica Gesso in a limited edition of 100.
